There are various options that can be used and deployed while trying to perform head alignment on your Epson printer but before we outline these options, lets me explain what print head alignment means. Print head alignment helps to harmonize paper feed with the movement of the print head, ensuring you get the best print quality possible.
So as an Epson user, you would be wondering how to identify if your printer is in need of print head alignment or not. Well, if you are noticing horizontal white lines or regular patterns of light and dark over the whole range of your prints, then be rest assured that you are need of an alignment.
But before we begin to give you detailed or step by step instruction on what to do, be sure your Epson printer is nozzle clog-free. Performing a nozzle check is a good way to keep it in good condition as it extends its life span. Also ensure that all of the ink passages are visible and the lines are all free of breaks; as this action would ensure that the alignment pattern will print correctly.
An information worthy to note is that performing head alignment differs with printer models but our focus in this article will be on the Epson Inkjet models.
There are however two options for alignments which are as follows:
1. Aligning the heads through the printer’s control panel.
2. Using the print driver utility.
#### Aligning the heads through the printer’s control panel:
It is usually recommended to use the first option as the print head aligns automatically with the printer and saves you more time. The other option involves looking at various patterns for each ink channel and selecting the optimal alignment.
Here are steps you need to follow if you want to align your print head through the printer’s control panel;
Step 1: Load some sheets of paper in the tray.
Step 2: On the Control Panel, press Home, click Setup and press OK.
Step 3: Select Maintenance and press OK.
Step 4: Select Head Alignment and press OK.
Step 5: Press START and the alignment sheet will print.
Step 6: Go ahead to check the alignment pattern that has printed to confirm.
Step 7: Find the pattern in each set that has the least visible vertical lines as shown on the picture below
Step 8: Press 1 on the screen, select the number of the best pattern in the first set, and press OK. Then do same for the other sets.
Step 9: Once you are done, Press OK.
### Using the print driver utility:
If you intend using your PC, follow the steps below;
Step 1: Load some sheets of paper in the tray.
Step 2: Go to Windows, right click the printer icon by the taskbar (bottom right corner of your screen) and select Print Head Alignment.
Step 3: Follow the instruction on your screen to print an alignment sheet. A screenshot is shown below:
Step 4: Go ahead and check the alignment pattern that has printed to confirm if it now looks good, find the pattern in each set that has the least visible vertical lines as shown on the picture below:
Step 5: Enter the number of the best pattern in each set.
Step 6: When done, click FINISH.
Once the process is completed, ensure to make another print and see if the quality of your printout has improved or the issues have been resolved.
