How to clean the print head of an EPSON printer?

EPSON printer users who abandon their printers after a period of time face the problem of having a print output with white lines or bands, horizontal from side to side and repeating vertically along the entire height of a printed page.

This usually happens when their print head nozzles are clogged and the ink is unable to come out. When the problem is more serious, one or more of the four basic colors may even disappear completely, resulting to a greenish print, purple print or a print where black text does not appear, etc.

When such is experienced, then you know it’s time to clean the print head of your Epson printer.
Here are steps that can help you achieve this:

Do a nozzle check on EPSON printers:

Nozzle check steps for Epson Printers without LCD screen:-

• Load plain paper in the printer.
• Press the power button to turn off the printer.
• Turn on the printer while holding the maintenance button. When the power indicator flashes, release the two buttons.

• Access the Config menu.
• Within the Configuration menu, access Maintenance menu.
• Within Maintenance menu select Injector Test.

The nozzle check pattern will be printed.

If we obtain a pattern in which the 4 basic colors appear and there is also no point missing, we are in luck, we have our print head clean and in perfect condition. No need to clean:

However, if any of the 4 colors are missing, or missing points appear in the test, we have nozzles clogged with dry ink and we will have to clean the head:

Cleaning the EPSON print head

Head cleaning consumes ink, although we do not see it, it will end up in a sponge in our printer.
To do the cleaning, it is necessary that the ink level of all the colors is at least 25%. If the ink of any of the colors is close to running out, it is better to change the cartridge for a new one, because the cleaning will not be as effective.

• With the printer on, press the maintenance button for 3-4 seconds, until the power indicator blinks.

• Within Maintenance we select Head cleaning.

The print head cleaning will start. During the process the machine will emit series of sounds and the power indicator will blink. When the flashing stops and the light is steady, the cleaning process is complete. At that point we can reprint a nozzle check pattern to see how the cleaning has gone.

Some Advice:

After carrying out head cleaning and the pattern improves but not completely, it is best to wait 15 to 20 minutes before doing a second head cleaning.

If you have already done 3 head cleanings (rest intervals included), we recommend not doing head cleaning again for 24 hours.

After carrying out several head cleanings on different days, yet the missing points in the nozzle check pattern remains the same always, it is very likely that those nozzles have stopped working, so the only option would be to replace the print head of your Epson printer for a new one.
